Nehru Garden Udaipur, built on an island in the middle of Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur city of Rajasthan, is a much-loved attraction among tourists and locals. A beautiful view of Aravali hills on three sides and Udaipur city on one side can be seen from Nehru Garden.

This garden has been named after the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. This garden was completed in 1967 and it was opened for tourists on 14 November that year, his birthday.
Architecture – Nehru Garden Udaipur
Nehru Garden Oval is an island built in a shape which is built on about 4.5 acres of land. There are fountains in this garden which are installed like the Brindavan Garden of Mysore. However, these fountains are currently closed.
There are palm trees on the outside of the garden and a sheet of green grass is spread inside. Colorful lights are installed in the garden and there is a boat-shaped restaurant at one end of the garden. This restaurant is also closed now.
After reaching inside the garden, you will see that paintings of elephants and horses have been done in Rajputi style on the floor of the garden. There are also some seats for sitting outside the garden. This seat is built under a small umbrella.

It is best to visit the garden in the evening. The garden is a very good location for a photoshoot at sunset. Apart from this, it is also very nice to take a walk in the garden in a peaceful environment. Very good views of Aravali can be seen from the umbrellas of the garden. The path from the garden to the restaurant is like a thin corridor. This is the best photoshoot point of this garden. The Aravalli hills look very beautiful in the backdrop.
The garden is illuminated in the evening. The garden becomes a sight to behold in colorful lights. If you are staying in a hotel near Fateh Sagar Lake, then it is possible that you can see the Nehru Garden glowing at night from there.
How to Reach – Nehru Garden Udaipur
Since this garden is on an island, it can be reached only by boat. Boat tickets for Nehru Garden can be taken from the ticket office on the main road. Ticket per person is Rs 118. This ticket office is open from 9 am to 6 pm. It is not necessary that you return by the same boat in which you left. Boats come and go constantly. You can take any boat while returning and this boat drops you back near the ticket office.
Nehru Garden is open from 9 am to 6 pm, seven days a week.
The best season to visit Udaipur city is monsoon and winter. If you are in Udaipur during winter season and are going to Nehru Garden, then you can go there at any time of the day. If you want to stay in Nehru Garden for a few hours, then keep a water bottle and some snacks with you. The garden restaurant has been closed for a long time, so it would be good to keep some food with you.
It would not be very good to go during monsoon during sunny time but evening time would be perfect. You can visit Nehru Garden after 4 pm in the evening.
