Madan Mahal Fort Jabalpur : Madan Mahal Fort is a fort built on a high hill in the city of Jabalpur in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Madan Mahal Fort is carved out of a large granite rock. This fort is situated on a hill at a height of about 500 meters from the ground. Madan Mahal Fort is also known as Rani Durgavati Fort.

Reason behind name Madan Mahal Fort Jabalpur

It is believed that in mythological times this was the penance place of sage Jabali and hence the name of this place came to be Jabalipur and later it became Jabalpur. It is also said that the name of Jabalpur is taken from the Arabic word Jabal. The word Jabal in Arabic means mountain and hence the city was named Jabalpur.
History – Madan Mahal Fort Jabalpur
Madan Mahal Fort was built in the 11th century during the rule of Madan Singh, the 37th Gond ruler. This fort is situated in the western part of Jabalpur which is a watch fort. This fort is also called Sukh Mahal of Raja Madan Singh. Madan Mahal Fort was used as a military post. This fort was used as a watch tower and for the accommodation of soldiers.
The king and his family used to come to live here. The main fort of the royal family was Garh Fort.
Looking at the rooms built here, the arrangement for keeping horses, secret passages and corridors etc., it is inferred that this fort was actually a military post where the army, weapons and horses etc. of the Gondwana state were kept.

Madan Mahal Fort was related to Queen Durgavati. Rani Durgavati was the queen of Gondwana state from 1550 to 1564. This fort is known as the military cantonment of Rani Durgavati. Rani Durgavati was a brave warrior and had attained martyrdom during the battle with the Mughal army.

It is said that gold bricks are buried somewhere in the fort and no one has been able to find them yet. “In the shade of Madan Mahal, between two legs, there is a basket worth nine lakhs, two gold bricks” This is a famous saying about Madan Mahal, although most of the researchers and experts have not found anything like this here till date. have been found. This saying was said for the grandeur of those times and their grandeur.
The memories of Rani Durgavati reside with Madan Mahal Fort. It is said that the stone still exists here on which Rani Durgavati used to practice jumping down while sitting on her horse.
It is said about Madan Mahal Fort that there is a secret tunnel here, it is believed that this tunnel used to reach Mandla and through this tunnel Queen Durgavati used to come from Mandla to the fort. From this fort, she used to go to the nearby temple through a tunnel and used to worship there.
