Matar Paratha Recipe : Green peas paratha is one such dish that can be prepared in any season or weather and is a perfect breakfast. Thanks to the Frozen Green Peas. Green peas paratha is just like any other stuffed paratha. Just like potato parathas or cabbage parathas are made by stuffing spices in the paratha, in the same way green peas paratha is also made by stuffing peas in the paratha.
Fresh green peas available in winter are perfect for making green peas paratha, but tasty green peas parathas can also be made from frozen packaged peas. In this recipe of Green Peas Paratha, I have used fresh green peas. I have also used garlic in this recipe to prepare the stuffing for green peas paratha. Sometimes, I replace garlic with asafetida. Please use whatever taste you are comfortable with. It totally depends on personal choice. I have seen in few Indian families that on certain days garlic is not used in cooking. Well, green peas paratha can be prepared using with or without garlic.

Ingredients for Matar Paratha Recipe
Dough for Matar Paratha Recipe
- Wheat flour: 2 cups
- salt to taste
- Carom seeds: 1 tsp
- Ghee: 2 tsp
Prepare Stuffing for Matar Paratha Recipe
- Green peas: 1 cup
- salt to taste
- Cumin: 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric Powder: 1 pinch
- Garlic: 3-4 cloves
- Green Chillies: 2 (finely chopped)
- Coriander Powder: 1/4 tsp
- Ghee / Oil : 1 tsp (for stuffing)
- Ghee / Oil: For roasting green peas parathas
How to make Matar Paratha Recipe
Take wheat flour in a bowl and add salt according to your taste. Also add carom seeds and ghee to it. After mixing all these ingredients well, now add water in small quantity at a time to knead a smooth dough. After kneading the dough, cover it and keep it aside.
Now let’s prepare the stuffing for green peas paratha.
Stuffing for Matar Paratha Recipe
Immerse fresh green peas in boiling water for 5 minutes. In case you are using frozen green peas, soak it in warm water for 2 minutes and that will be enough. Drain the water and keep the peas on a cotton cloth to dry. Heat a small spoon of oil in a pan and add cumin, turmeric powder, coriander powder, chopped garlic cloves.
When garlic turns light brown and its raw smell goes away, add green peas and chopped green chilies to it. Add salt. Here use of green chili can be as per your liking. As we have already used the red chili powder in the tadka, we can even skip adding green chilies.
In case of using asafetida, add it along with other spices. immediately add green peas and chili and cook for 2 minutes.
I skip adding green chilies when these parathas are prepared for kids, else I am using green chilies. Leave green peas on flames only for a minute and keep it aside. When it cools down, make a coarse paste in the mixer. Now the stuffing for green peas paratha is ready.
Prepare Matar Paratha Recipe
Now divide the dough into equal parts and make balls. Roll the dough into a round shape of 4 to 5 inch size. Place green peas stuffing in the center and close the stuffing by pulling the outer edges to the center. Dust the stuffed dough to roll it out again.
Roll into chapati shape. Heat the griddle, put the rolled peas paratha on the griddle. When the color of top side starts changing, flip it. Apply oil on the top side. Flip again and apply oil on the other side as well. Cook till it turns brown from both the sides.
Green peas paratha is ready. It goes well as a snack with tea and pickle or with raita. Green Peas Paratha is quick to make and a full plate itself which has bread and veggies along with spices packed in it. It is a very good option for lunch box.
