History of Mathura
Mathura, is one of the oldest and most significant cities in Indian history, especially revered in Hindu tradition as the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Its history dates back over 5000 years, being mentioned in ancient texts like the Mahabharata and the Puranas. During the 6th century BCE, Mathura was a prominent city in the Indo-Gangetic plains and a center of trade and culture under the influence of the Shurasena dynasty. It is said about this temple that this temple is about 5000 years old. The first temple here was built by Vajranabha, the great grandson of Shri Krishna. Due to the condition of the temple deteriorating over time, its renovation work was done by different kings from time to time. The temple that is here now was built by Raja Veer Singh Bundela of Orchha.
Shri Dwarikadheesg Mandir – Mathura Tourist Places
Shri Dwakiradheesh Temple is built on the Vishram Ghat on the banks of river Yamuna. Lord Krishna is also called the King of Dwarka or Dwarkadhish. This temple is dedicated to this form of his. Bhooteshwar Mahadev Mandir – Mathura Tourist Places
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is one of the oldest temples in India. A large number of devotees come here on Shivratri and Maha Shivratri in the month of Sawan. The cave of Patal Devi is also situated in this temple, whom Kansa used to worship. This temple is also dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is known for its excellent architecture. This temple is situated in the southern part of Mathura city.
It is said about this temple that Kansa used to worship Lord Shiva here. Kansa knew that he would be killed at the hands of Shri Krishna, but still he called him to Mathura and challenged him to wrestle with him. For this, a theater was built which is situated near this temple. Kansa worshiped Lord Shiva here for the last time and after that he went to wrestle with Shri Krishna. In the same wrestling, Shri Krishna had killed Kansa. Because of the theater this temple was named Rangeshwar Mahadev Temple.

Kansa’s fort is situated on the banks of Yamuna river. This fort was once the residence of King Kansa of Mathura, although it is now in a dilapidated state. Mathura is well connected by road network. One can easily reach here by bus, taxi or by driving in one’s own car.

Jamnashtami – Shri Krishna’s Birthday
Janmashtami is the biggest festival or religious celebration celebrated here. On the day of Janmashtami, a large number of devotees come to Keshav Dev Temple and Dwarkadhish Temple. Tourists coming to Mathura on Janmashtami are not in thousands but in lakhs. This number goes up to 30 lakhs. Throughout the day, bhajans and kirtans are performed in temples at various places and tableaux of Lord Krishna are decorated.
