Nal Sarovar, on the border of two districts of Gujarat, Ahmedabad and Surendranagar, is a favorite place for migratory birds and is the largest wetland in the whole of India including Gujarat, which was declared a bird sanctuary in 1969.

How to reach – Nal Sarovar Ahmedabad

Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary is at a distance of about 60 km from Ahmedabad. The best option to reach here is to go by your own vehicle because the route to reach here goes through villages and there are only a few means available. If you are coming by your car or bike then you can reach Nal Sarovar without any difficulty. In a way this is also right because this place is a bird sanctuary so too much noise of vehicles and crowd is not good for the birds also. Not much commercialization has been here and due to which the wildlife here is away from the crowd.

As soon as you reach Nal Sarovar area, you have to buy an entry ticket just before one kilometre. Only after this can you enter this area. You also get a parking ticket at this gate itself. Nal Sarovar is open for tourists from 6 am to 5 pm. Ticket per person is Rs 50. Car parking ticket is Rs 500.

The best season to come here is rainy and winter, at that time you can see more and more tourist birds here. Nal Sarovar was once a part of the sea, which got separated from it due to geographical conditions and turned into a wetland. Its area is spread over 121 square kilometers. There are 360 ​​small and big islands in this entire aquatic area. Its maximum depth is about 9 feet and generally 4 feet.

If you are coming to Nal Sarovar specifically to see birds, then you should come here early in the morning. If you reach here at 6 in the morning, you can see maximum birds here. Later in the day, due to increased crowd and noise, birds are not seen much outside.

Nal Sarovar has been declared a Ramsar site on 24 September 2012. A Ramsar site is a wetland that is given international importance.
