Bhujio Fort Gujarat : Bhujio Fort is located in the city of Bhuj in the Kutch district of Gujarat state. Bhuj city was founded by Rao Hamir Singh in the year 1510 and after that Rao Ki Khengar Ji I declared it the capital of his kingdom Kutch.

Bhujio Fort is more than 300 years old fort which is a main historical attraction of Bhuj city. Although this fort has passed through 6 wars, it has become a ruin today, but from this fort and the hill on which it is situated, a panoramic view of the entire Bhuj city can be seen. Tourists come here to get acquainted with the history of this fort and to see the beautiful views of Bhuj city.

Construction – Bhujio Fort Gujarat

According to historians, Bhujio Fort was built on the outskirts of Bhuj city by the Jadeja rulers to keep an eye on the enemies. At that time the king of Kutch wanted to build a guard fort from where the invaders could be monitored and the city could be kept safe. He got the idea to build this fort on Bhujio hill. At that time there were attacks from Mughals, Sindhu rulers and Rajputs.

First Rao Gaur ji started the construction work of Bhujio Fort in 1715. The construction work of this fort was completed in the year 1741 during the time of Deshalji Rao.

History – Bhujio Fort Gujarat

During the time of Deshalji I, this fort was attacked by the Mughal Viceroy of Gujarat Sher Buland Khan in 1728. During the war, many Naga Babas had gathered for prayers in the Nag Dev temple located here. In this war, he along with the army drove away the invaders. In the end the king of Bhuj won. Maharaj had also built an umbrella over this temple. Since then a special fair is organized here on the day of Nag Panchami.

Bhuj was attacked 6 times out of which the fort was successful in defending itself from two attacks but in the remaining 4 attacks it could not defend itself safely.

Mughal and British rulers also had control over this fort. After independence, this fort was used for military purposes and later it was abandoned. Due to lack of care, today Bhujia Fort has turned into a ruin-like building.

Bhujang Nag Maandir – Bhujio Fort Gujarat

The Bhujiya Fort complex houses the Bhujang Dev Nag Temple, which is situated on the highest part of the Bhujiya Hill. It is believed that this temple is dedicated to Nagraj Bhujang, who is the brother of Sheshnag, which means Lord of the Underworld, who is especially revered in Hinduism. It is believed that in ancient times, Nagraj Bhujang ruled here. Being influenced by his name, this hill was named Bhujio hill and the city was named Bhuj.

Even today, the residents of this place have great respect for Nag Dev, Gods and Goddesses and worship them with great devotion. Since then an annual fair is organized on the hill of this Bhujio Fort on the day of Nag Panchami of Shravan month as per Hindu calendar.

How to reach Bhujio Fort Gujarat

Bhujio Fort is located in a city called Bhuj in Kutch district of Gujarat. Bus facilities are available to reach here from all major cities of Gujarat. The distance of Bhuj city from Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat, is approximately 330 kilometers. To reach here one can easily travel from Ahmedabad by any taxi or any cab.

If you want to reach here by flight, then Bhuj Airport is located about 4 kilometers away from Bhuj, which can be reached directly or by connected flights from other airports of the country. The distance from the airport to Bhujiya Fort and Bhujiya Hill can be covered by rented car, taxi or public transport.

If you want to reach here by rail, then Bhuj has its own railway station, Bhuj Railway Station, from where you can easily reach Bhujio Fort.
